4 Good Resources That Provide Digital Textbooks for Teachers

June 12, 2015
We got a couple of requests over the past few weeks from teachers asking about digital textbook resources. Here are some of the websites and apps we would recommend in this regard. These platforms, curated from Edshelf,  provide a wide variety of features that include: search for and access digital textbooks, rent or buy textbooks, and some of them  (e.g Chegg) offers homework help materials and several other educational resources.

1- Chegg

With Chegg, you can rent textbooks for school (or buy them!) and instantly access eTextbooks for when you need required materials. Some of the features provided by Chegg include:
Easily search for textbooks by title, author, ISBN or by scanning a barcode
Buy or rent textbooks and eTextbooks
Read eTextbooks on any device – desktop, tablet, smartphone

2- CK-12 Felxbook

CK-12 is a great platform that provides high quality curated STEM content for teachers and students. Its library has over 5000 math and science materials ideal to use in class. Flexbook is one of the best features I like in CK-12. Flexbook provides a wide variety of free textbooks for teachers to use in their lessons. It even allows teachers to create their own Flexbooks using materials from other textbooks in the site. Textbooks are available in multiple formats including: PDF format, Kindle and Nook and iPad.

3- iBooks

“iBooks is an amazing way to download and read books. iBooks includes the iBooks Store, where you can download the latest bestselling books or your favorite classics – day or night. Browse your library on a beautiful bookshelf, tap a book to open it, flip through pages with a swipe or a tap, and bookmark or add notes to your favorite passages.”

4- Inkling

“Inkling's interactive eBooks are designed to help you learn, study, and discover just about anything, whether it's for school, work, or play. Our books cover the gamut from anatomy to photography and travel to cooking. Our Lonely Planet Guides offer Foursquare-based location info and live updates. Our Rick Steves’ guides include Rick’s personal vocal narration of key European cities. Our anatomy titles include hundreds of hi-res diagrams that let you strip off the labels and test what you know. Our food and drink books include instructional animations and videos to help you learn news skills in the kitchen. Our For Dummies book selection include learning to play guitar to learning Java or CSS.”
